US IST / ET overlap

Zovle · United States

Working with
US clients.

We are in Bengaluru and we have not opened an office in Austin. This page exists so you can decide whether that matters before spending thirty minutes on a call.

The hours actually overlap

India is nine and a half hours ahead of New York and twelve and a half ahead of Los Angeles. In practice our afternoon is your morning, which gives a comfortable window every working day for calls and decisions. Work you approve at 9am Eastern gets picked up the same hour, not the next day. The gap that people warn you about is real for Pacific time and manageable for everywhere east of Denver.

What you pay, and in what

We quote in US dollars, fixed and in writing, before any work starts. Indian studio rates are a fraction of US agency rates, which is the reason you are reading this, and we would rather say so plainly than pretend the saving comes from somewhere else.

There is no rate card here either. Send us the quote you already have from a US agency. If it covers the same standard of work, we go 5% under it, and we will show you line by line where the two differ. We make the call on whether they are comparable, because a promise to beat any number at any standard is worth nothing to you.

Payment is by wire or Wise. We invoice in stages tied to things you can see working, never to hours we say we spent.

Who owns what

You do. Code, repository, servers, domains and third-party accounts go in your name from day one, and you can hand the whole thing to another developer whenever you like. Contracts can be governed by your state's law if that makes your counsel happier. We have no problem signing an NDA before the first call.

The honest part

Every client we have shipped for so far is in India or Japan. If you need somebody who can be in your office on Thursday, or who already knows your state's regulatory quirks, hire locally and we will tell you that on the call rather than after the invoice. What we are good at is building the thing properly and telling you the truth about what it costs.

Common questions

Answers before
the call.

How do we handle the time difference day to day?

Written updates you can read when you wake up, and a standing call in the overlap window if you want one. Most clients settle into a weekly call plus messages as needed. We do not expect you to be awake at odd hours and we do not disappear for a day at a time.

Can you sign an NDA and a US-law contract?

Yes to both. Send yours and we will sign it, or use ours as a starting point. Governing law can be your state. Disputes have never got that far, but the paperwork should still be right.

What if it goes wrong?

You own the code and the accounts from day one, so the worst case is you take the work to somebody else and you have lost time rather than everything. We invoice in stages against working software for the same reason. Nobody should be able to hold your business hostage, including us.

Do you work with US startups or established businesses?

Both, though the conversations differ. Founders usually want the smallest thing that proves the idea. Established businesses usually have a process that works and a system that no longer fits it. We are more useful on the second problem.

The next
blueprint
is still blank.

Thirty minutes in your morning. Bring the problem, not a specification. We will tell you what it would take and what it would cost.
